DRT Library Mourns Donor’s Passing
The Committee and staff of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Hortensia (Hortense) De La Garza Herrera, who passed away in Austin on December 22, 2010.
Mrs. Herrera was the widow of Adolph C. Herrera (1913-1999). After his death, she and her family donated the collection of documents and artifacts her husband had amassed to the DRT Library. Mr. Herrera, who was a direct descendant of José Francisco Ruiz and Blas Herrera, had also compiled a great deal of information about his ancestors and family history, which he donated to the DRT Library prior to his death. The Library remains grateful to Mrs. Herrera and her family for their generous donation. The collection is a fitting tribute to the Herrera and Ruiz families, Adolph C. Herrera, and Mrs. Herrera, who shared her husband’s love of family history and recognized the importance of making the collection available to researchers in a library where it could be appropriately housed, preserved, and maintained.
The Committee and staff of the DRT Library send their warmest condolences to Mrs. Herrera’s family and friends; our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
